Doctor Faustus, the character, conceptualizes a society trapped in between Christian values and the advances of Science (or the traditional Renaissance interest in knowledge). Marlowe, in an attempt to exemplify the “evils” of both, streched the two trends to their own limits. In one case we are presented the devil himself, and on the other case total obssession in regards to knowledge and advancement (the first step to get to a more modern Frankestein). What is most interesting, though, is the reason why an atheist would choose to call the devil and when confronting him he would still consider going a further. Seeing the devil did not overcome his haughtiness and his obssession regained power. The Tragical History ofDoctor Faustus is overall a race to maximize the potential of those two worlds with no winners but only losers.
I am not afraid to say that I live on dreams. I have always thought that it is due to your context that you rely on dreams. But honestly, I simply enjoy it!
When you’re on a holiday
You can’t find the words to say
All the things that come to you
And I wanna feel it too
On an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t control my brain
hip hip
hip hip
When you’re on a golden sea
You don’t need no memory
Just a place to call your own
As we drift into the zone
On an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t control my brain
We’ll run away together
We’ll spend some time forever
We’ll never feel bad anymore
hip hip
hip hip
hip hip
On an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t control my brain
We’ll run away together
We’ll spend some time forever
We’ll never feel bad anymore
Hip Hip
(hip hip)
We’ll never feel bad anymore
(hip hip)
no no
(hip hip)
We’ll never feel bad anymore
(hip hip)
no no
(hip hip)
We’ll never feel bad anymore
(hip hip)
(hip hip)
No No
(hip hip)
We’ll never feel bad anymore
(hip hip)
No No
no no
Ben Harper – She’s Only Happy in the Sun
“She’s Only Happy In The Sun”I know you may not want to see me
On your way down from the clouds
Would you hear me if I told you
That my heart is with you nowShe’s only happy in the sun
She’s only happy in the sun
Did you find what you were after?
The pain and the laughter brought you to your knees
But if the sun sets you free, sets you free
You’ll be free indeed, Indeed
She’s only happy in the sun
She’s only happy in the sun
Every time I hear you laughing, I hear you laughing
It makes me cry
Like the story of life, of your life
Is hello, goodbye
Shes only happy in the sun
Shes only happy in the sun
As the time far away from home passes I see myself facing my identity in different ways. My country is not what it was when I first left, neither am I. Hatred became understanding, days became months, smiles became doubts, words became warriors. How can fully understanding of a person from a different background ever happen? Why are some of us still trying?
The War Sonnets: V. The Soldier
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there’s some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England’s, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven
